Remember Stripy?
Well every so often someone asks about the pattern, but it’s always been my intention to do a tutorial on making this in your yarn to fit your measurements. Finally I’ve got the time to do this, so over the next few weeks I’ll be doing a series of posts on making this. If you want to play along, you’ll need to gather your yarn. This guide should be useful in helping to figure out how much you’ll need, although I do think the amounts suggested are a wee bit over generous. If you want to do stripes you want about two thirds of your yarn in the main colour and one third in the contrast. Use whatever weight of yarn you like, because this will be worked out from your own gauge it would be an ideal way to make use of a yarn that isn’t a standard weight, maybe some hand spun.
The original was with aran weight yarn but for this version I’m going to use a double knitting weight merino. The grey and raspberry are Jaeger Extra Fine Merino DK bought on sale from cucumberpatch. I wasn’t sure about the raspberry, it’s a little more maroon than I was hoping for so today I picked up some Debbie Bliss Rialto, a very similar yarn. Now, of course, I’m leaning more towards the raspberry!

i like the raspberry better with the grey, too. Is uspect it’ll be rather a delicious combination.
Hiya, just popping by to nag you about the Vegan Pal 2 swap. You’re signed up on swapbot and the blog, but I haven’t seen your questionnaire yet. If you’ve changed your mind I can drop you off the list, totally fine, but if you’re still wanting to join us, your answers need to be up by the end of the month. xoxo.
What a lovely pattern! I think it’s great that the stripes are done in a Empire cut style.
I like the raspberry with the grey. It’s very elegant!
Oooh, I love the raspberry too…!
the bright red!!!! because i love bright red and i feel there are not enough bright red things out there, but also because i think the raspberry and the grey are too much alike, in er… would you call that colour intensity?, so that they’d blend together too much.
Oh yay!! I have been waiting for this pattern, it’s got pretty much all the features that I like in a sweater. I’ll be following with great interest!
I also like the raspberry and grey. I like the red, don’t get me wrong, but not with that grey.
Glad you’re doing a series on the stripy! It was the thing that made me a regular reader of your blog– Not kidding, I spent several hours googling “striped green sweater” because I knew I had seen it and then couldn’t remember where!
Oh I love stripy and great to hear that the pattern will be posted. Waiting.
Thanks for this! I really like the way you did the neckband. I’ve got some stash yarn that I might make this with once you start posting the instructions!!
Ooh fun, I like playalongs. I think I shall use this pattern for my Mum’s Christmas jumper :)
I loved this sweater, cool that you will realized a tutorial!
Weeee, I have exactly the buttons for this!! Can’t wait to get started… Ooooh, *bouncebouncebounce*
Oh, I am going to have to knit along with that tutorial. I won’t be doing a “stripy” stripy. I am far too fluffy to look good in horizontal stripes. :)
This looks lovely! Just a word of warning – I was lazy and didnt’t wash my swatch when making a cardigan out of extra fine. The finished cardigan does very very alarming stretching when wet, takes ages to dry and I really should have gone down a needle size from what looked good when freshly knitted!
I noticed that super wash wool doesn’t seem to hold onto itself as well as regular wool after washing. I’m wondering that if you use wool for the top and then a mix of wool and superwash for the stripes, will that make the bottom portion more drapey?
love and laughter,
Amy
Thankyou Thankyou, a gathering I shall go. I’ve been waiting and hoping for this for a long time (i’ve been holding on to certain skeins in my stash for this occasion)
Best Regards
Sharon
