The cute little button tab thing didn’t really work out, but I’m already planning on using that on something else. For now this has a single button and loop closure, but I’m not convinced it’s perfect. I’m thinking of wide ribbon.
First though, I need to perfect this. The neckband is knit onto the back stitches but it’s much too wide at the moment, need to use some double decreases.
There will, of course be a pattern for this and I’m delighted that many of you already asked about it. It’s just so much easier to make shiny new things than write patterns but I need to stop that, I already have some catching up to do. Although I did start something new this evening it’s just a wee thing, a gift and adorably cute so I’m not counting it.
This little cardigan isn’t quite finished yet, but that didn’t stop me wearing it for most of the weekend.
LBC isn’t really much of a name and certainly doesn’t fit the characters theme I’m so fond of. I’m considering Inara, but I’m not sure it’s perfect so if you have any other suggestions I’d love to know.

I like it a lot, especially the lace at the bust and arms. :)
Gorgeous! It looks really good on you. Is the one on the dummy a different color? Does that mean you’ve made two already?
beautiful! i love your patterns!
Not that anyone but me has read either of these books…but the first thing that came to mind was the female character from Never After (not another frog meets girl story) by Rebecca Lickiss (who is apparently also a nuclear engineer – but that’s neither here nor there). Anyway, the character is Vevila. And for some reason, this looks to me like the sort of sweater that a not quite so fairytale princess who ends up marrying Rumplestilskin (but only after much hilarity) would wear.
Also, it makes me think of Vivacious. And I just like Vs.
Lovely!
Though I think it looks more like River than Inara.
I agree River would be a great name for this cardigan. But Inara fits well too. Either way it has turned out amazing!
I love the cardi and I will definitely buy the pattern.
I like Inara and Vevila. LBC works well too.
well.. I love the cardigan, I love Firefly… I think Inara is a pretty name, but agree that it’s not 100% right :) I think River is really good, but the one that popped up in my mind, was Kaylee? I don’t know why, it doesn’t seem like one she would wear, but it has the same mix of pretty/cute and still not -too- cute (since the lace isn’t over all, but it has ribbing as well… it reminds me of Kaylee who is a bit boyish but still oh so cute and pretty :)
a bit of ramblings, hope it made sense ;)

i actually think that inara fits perfectly. she always wore garments in the same vein. same cut/style. i just started watching firefly again last night :) we recently upgraded to a surround sound 5.1 system and i had to experience it again!
I’m going to go in a different direction and say Cinder. I like that it’s literary but also has a connotation of blackness.
I kind of like lbc, myself, but all the suggestions have been good!
I think Inara is perfect. River is nice, but the cardigan is not exactly “her”. But the shape and stitch pattern of this cardigan definitely says “Inara”…especially in a deep red or burgandy.
The cardigan is just sexy enough to be Inara — I say you stick with it. Looking forward to the pattern!
” With so much drama in the l-b-c
Its kinda hard bein’ Ysolda T.” :)
Do you know that track by Snoop Dogg? Gin and Juice? I’m sorry, the abbreviation just made me think of it. I really love all your designs and the steadyiness
Oh, I just love this one! It’s so cute!! I can’t wait for the pattern. Great job!
Woops, pressed the button a bit early there…I was going to say: the steadiness of the quality. And the style, and and and…well everything. I love it! Please continue and be very succesful!
Bye!
Inara! That’s my vote… it would be great in a dark red for that name… Shiny!
Maybe it’s because I just saw it on IFC yesterday, or maybe it’s because you’re standing outside the “Cafe Royale,” but I think “Amelie” might fit well.
Or do you already have an Amelie?
Though I do love the idea of “Inara”, I agree with Kim that it seems more of River type sweater.
Love your desings. Always check your blog for new ideas and patterns. The lovely cardy it’s a lot like Inara.
Kisses and hugges
Inara should be the name of a silk wrap. This is a cute sweater, but Inara isn’t “cute”, she’s beautiful and in a serious and classical way.
If you are going to go with a Firefly name, I like Kaylee. Also, just “Firefly” or “Serenity”.
But not Inara.
Very cute. I’ve always been fond of a nice fitted cardigan with a single closure. I like ribbon as a solution too. :)
As for writing patterns, I’ve found that it’s really helpful if I get my rough calculations done first. I set up my spreadsheet with a gauge area and all my measurements for all the sizes and then just plug in my initial expected lengths and ease. Then it’s just a matter of tweaking based on how it knits up and the pattern is mostly written.
It looks so pretty. I love the idea of a big loopy black silk bow with it, too. As for names, I instantly thought of Morgaine from the Mists of Avalon.
Just my two cents: I think it’s more “River” than “Inara.”
That said, it’s a beautiful sweater, and I love reading your blog.
Hay Ys i recon they see you’r persanality comeing through whene every ones sugesting River, heehee, but actully i think they might be right thugh wasn’t there a reso we went agenst that the othere night?? any way see you soon
How about a hook and eye type closure?
What about Ella, maybe? I’m thinking on the same lines as the suggestion for Cinder, but less of the housework, more of the happily ever after.
my suggestion is totally random. it looks like an audrey, or a lucette, to me.
( i’m notoriously random with names, though, so that might be a part of it. )
I think Inara is a fantastic name. That may be because I’m a bit obsessed with Firefly right now. And after all Jayne has his hat…
Lovely!
I love Firefly, but to me it looks a bit less Inara, a bit more ingenue.
So great!!
Beautiful!!
Congratulions!!
Kisses!!
Bye! :)
