Happy Valentine’s Day

YIP 45 - Feb 14th - Happy Valentines!
I can’t say I’m very into the holiday, but there was a pile of felt sitting temptingly on my desk and I find it hard to pass up any excuse for either crafting or dress up.
YIP 40 - Feb 9th - felt

Instructions for the rose can be found on the Purl Bee and here’s how I made the other.
felt flowers-5
felt flowers-1
Cut 7 small circles from felt, I used a penny as a template. This is a really useful type of marker, the other end is an “erase” tip so that if you are left with any marks after cutting out you can easily remove them.
felt flowers-2
Thread a needle with matching embroidery thread, fold a circle in half and insert the needle through both layers near one end.
felt flowers-3
String all of the circles onto the thread next to each other in the same way as the first. When all are threaded, bring the needle back around to the first and thread it through all of the circles again. Pull up tight, arranging petals neatly and stitching to securely fasten. Sew button to the front and kirby grip / bobby pin or barette to the back.

That’s such a wonderful little tutorial – thank you! I’ve never made anything felted, but this makes me want to head straight for the craft store! :)

Mmm… crafting and dress up? Perfect! :)

Our big event this evening is watching “Waking Life” a really beautiful rotoscoped movie about dreaming.

We also made bread, visited the NY Botanical Gardens and cleaned.

I love any excuse to dress up too…I went to John Lewis in a cocktail dress yesterday to mark the occasion, complete with red accessories. The flower barrette is gorgeous, I have some felt stashed away that would be perfect for this, thanks! Your hair looks adorable as always :D

Oh, I need to find a good quality felt distributor in Australia, then no kirby grip will be safe!!

Especially as my cute as a very cute vintage button toddler finally has enough hair to hold a grip and possibly an elastic.

I was recently shopping at Macy’s and noticed a very pretty blouse with what looked like ruffles up the front. After a closer look, you could see that the ruffles were made of simple 4-petal flower shapes tacked on the front of the blouse. The flowers were made of a very lightweight, almost sheer cotton fabric and not finished on the edges. I can’t imagine how they would make it through laundering, but the effect was very pretty at the onset, at least.

Your little flower is precious! It’s one of those slap-on-the-forehead, why didn’t I think of that pretties. I know the answer, of course: BECAUSE I’M NOT THAT CLEVER!!! I’m glad you are. . . and appreciative that you shared.
