Matilda Jane

£4.00

Flattering raglan cardigan, with fitted shaping at front and back, ballet neckline and elbow length sleeves. The back features an eyelet panel which laces up with ribbon. The lace neckband is worked first, then stitches are picked up and the cardigan is knit from the top down in one piece. There are no seams, the only sewing involved is darning in the yarn ends and whipstitching up the hems and facings. The top down construction means the cardigan can be tried on while in progress and the fit can be adjusted if necessary.

    Materials

    For the smaller size set:

    Approx 780 [830, 880, 930, 980, 1030] yards /
715 [760, 805, 850, 895, 940] metres of double knitting or light worsted weight yarn. I recommend using a smooth yarn in either wool or a wool and cotton blend. The pattern involves quite a bit of shaping, which really needs a yarn with at least some stretch to work best. I used Rowan Wool Cotton.
    OR
    Approx 620 [650, 680, 710, 740, 770] yards /
    570 [595, 620, 650, 680, 710] metres of MC,

    8 buttons, about 5/8″ / 15mm in diameter.

About 2.5 yards / metres of ribbon. Different ribbon widths will give different effects. I used a ribbon made from vintage Liberty print cotton lawn.

4mm (or size needed to obtain gauge) circular needle, 32″ / 80 cm or longer.

3.75 mm circular needle, 32″ / 80 cm or longer.

4mm, 12″ / 30 cm circular needle. (If you find it more comfortable you can work the sleeves on dpns, using magic loop or on 2
    circular needles.)

Yarn needle and at least 4 stitch markers.

    Notes

Please not that the additional sizes were added on the 20th July 2007. If you purchased the pattern prior to that date and did not receive the update via email please contact me.

One knitter wrote this about the pattern: “Matilda Jane makes use of the lifted increase to create proud little raglan “seams”, and the invisible make one to form discrete darts for the waist shaping. Decreases are fully fashioned (with the stitches leaning in the direction of the dart) where curves are to be hugged, and feathered (that is, with decreases leaning in the opposite direction to the angle of the dart) where they should be skimmed. Essentially, it is all extremely attractive, and the most attractive feature of all is the brain in the pattern.”

This pattern is provided as 2 pdf files which you will be able to download once your payment is complete.
