arisaig lace - written directions
I’ve had a few requests for the chart for arisaig to be written out - so here you go.
When working increases or decreases to shape pieces that are worked in Lace Pattern, be sure that every increase (yo) within the Lace Pattern is balanced by a corresponding decrease, and vice versa. It may be necessary at some points to work some stitches in stockinette st until sufficient stitches have been increased or decreased to keep the pattern balanced.
Row 1: (k4, yo, ssk, k6, yo, ssk, k2) rep to end
Row 2 and all following even rows: purl
Row 3: (k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1) rep to end
Row 5: (k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk) rep to end
Row 7: (k3, yo, s1, k2tog, psso, yo, k5, yo, s1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2) rep to end
Row 9: (yo, ssk, k6) rep to end
Row 11: (k1, yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo) rep to end
Row 13: (k2, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k1) rep to end
Row 15: (s1, k2tog, psso, yo, k5, yo,s1, k2tog, psso, yo, k5, yo) rep to end
Repeat rows 1 to 16 for length of lace section.

Hi Ysolda, congratulations on the Knitty cover. And you’re in Edinburgh! we might already know you on city knitty and I just don’t recognise you, but if you don’t know about us, and are interested in getting together with other knitters in and around Edinburgh, please join our yahoo group. There’s a link on our currently chaotic website, http://www.cityknitty.net. If you’re already there, speak up, because you’ll be inundated with praise about arisaig there as well!

I loved your cardigan on knitty. I usually see a few things on knitty that I like but very few that I know I’ll actually make. Your cardigan is different and have printed it out. It’s so cute, I love it!

I loved the pattern for the cardigan so much that I started it yesterday and am already well into the lace pattern for the back piece. It is so cool and beautiful! I am making it in chocolate brown with pink trim.
I have one question about the lace part: are there two stitches in stockinette stich (on each edge) or one? I calculated for two on the first eight rows of lace but am having a really hard time centreing the second set. I am knitting it in a small. Do you have any suggestions??
Thanks! and keep creating patterns!!!!
oh- and the corset pullover is gorgeous!!! I am looking around for wool for that one too.

I have a technical question too.
When measuring the ribbing for length before switching to the lace pattern, should I measure with the rib relaxed or stretched? At the moment, I have the required length if the rib is relaxed, but it’s about 1/2″ shorter when it’s as fully stretched as my needles will allow. My gut says I need to make it longer, since the ribbing certainly won’t be relaxed when I’m wearing it, but I thought I should check with you first, too see if you’d already built extra length into the pattern to compensate for this.
Thanks for the beautiful pattern–I can’t wait until I’m finished, and I’m barely started!

I love this sweater - and I love the picture of you on the beach. I’m an ex-pat Scot living in the South and I love to knit, but miss not having many opportunities to wear sweaters.
Congrats on being the Knitty cover girl!

Hey there, I also have a hard time centering the 2nd set of lace. But it’s not worth it to rip. I skipped the bottom rib and just went with the lace, gonna end up with seams missing some lace pattern, but that will prove that I actually made it. It’s just so beautiful. Thank you for the pattern.

Your cardigan is so cute! I, too, was having a problem centering the second set of lace. I did it over and over again and noticed that row 15 was the problem; it seems as if where the diamond shape is supposed to come to a point, the top two eyelets are moved over a stitch. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
