self-portrait tuesday
becuase I couldn’t decide which to post - 2 photos,
this is me and my little brother - who is actually 5 and a half years younger - despite the height difference. Neither of us normally look so smart - but this was a my cousin’s wedding last weekend. Not sure if you can really see it but I’m wearing an incredible necklace my mum bought me - it has dragonflies!

And this one was me and my friend Azi at halloween. Actually the day after, but we were at a party. On actual halloween I think I was the only student in the whole of Edinburgh Uni that went to classes in fancy dress - this place is so crap. I was a zombie bridesmaid/ prom queen - eighties b movie style - it was ace.

And this is the project I’m working on at the moment - finished pics are coming…

dear ysolda,
i’m writing from the states to tell you that i saw your sweater pattern on knitty.com today and it is AMAZING and you are true ARTIST. i don’t think i could make it because i am just a beginning knitter, but i’m sure it will inspire me anyway.
i hope someday you escape the clutches of Edinburgh, if that is your dream. i have a few nostalgic memories of the place myself.
about a million years ago, when i was your age, i studied for a semester at the Sorbonne. but my boyfriend at the time was also overseas, at the U. of Edinburgh. i used to blow off school and cross the Channel and spend all my weekends hanging out.
Anyway, one weekend, he took me to some kind of fancy dress ball at an amazing castle-like structure ( actual castle???) at the university. i had bought a funky old black 20s black dress at a huge flea market in Paris and had just had to cut off all my hair ( almost) after a nighmare permanent wave experience left most of my hair rather dead. he was wearing a full dress kilt etc etc, loaned from the older couple he was staying with while he studied. the party was totally energized- lots of great music and wacky student films and really bad food ( as i recall). but the point of the whole memory for me was that the entire evening, because i was wearing this very drama queen black dress and had really short hair ( at a time when almost no one did) and because i have a slightly UNIQUE nose, everyone teased me all night long that i looked like barbra streisand.
i don’t even remember much about my boyfriend today but i remember that student ball in Edinburgh. wacky, huh?
good luck with everything.
