Thankyou

sigh, that’s been bugging me for so long. No wonder I didn’t realise that the literary basis for my conviction that it would be possible to double knit 2 socks at once was Anna Karenina. You see, that must be relatively near the beginning of the novel, because I didn’t get very far with it. I was, at most, 14 at the time, so perhaps its time for a new attempt. One of these days. Everyone seems pretty sure that that’s the source, but if anyone has any other suggestions I’d be delighted to hear. It seems odd somehow, that my only clear memory of the novel is that. Or, actually given how my head works, perhaps not odd at all.

I’m planning on finishing the stripy jumper tonight. If (and it’s a very big if) I can find my buttons. The weather today has been decidely wintery, and very very wet. I have very ambivalent feelings towards winter, but one thing I’m not in the least ambivalent about is the need for cosy hand knits.

i never managed to finish reading it either…

Margaret Atwood’s novel “Cat’s Eye” mentions women who knit too much. That kind of made me wonder “how much is too much?”. it’s funny how a random reference to knitting can influence your enjoyment of a book/movie.

good luck on the button hunt! i don’t know why buttons always seem to disappear but i have the same problem. they usually turn up tho.

I do believe that the double knitting was actually from War and Peace.

This really confused me for a while - I finished Anna Karenina, and I kept hearing about the knitting that “happened in that book”, except - I didn’t remember it. Much to my relief I learned that it was War and Peace with the knitted stockings, not Anna.

By the by, great blog!

I look forward to seeing the stripy sweater…I find buttons so hard to find as I usually have something in mind but its not in the shops!
Talking of cosy winter knits, I have nearly finished your Hoodie pattern…minus zip…It is a great pattern so thank you.

love the jumper! I’ve ripped out my 1/3 finished tubey to make one like it…I can figure out the rglan part, just want to know how you do the stripes in spiral like that. Is it just a “jogless join” and if so, what instructions did you use? I’ve always found the directions I’ve tried a bit confusing…
