little bits

DSCF2724.JPG

All of my coursework (2 big essays) for this semester is due in on Monday. I’ve written about this before, but I find it very difficult not to get overwhelmed by how much I have to say and often find myself so anxious about this that I don’t end up saying anything at all. I spent all day, more or less, yesterday making a mind map for the first essay. Now I’m trying to turn that into a linear argument, focusing on just a little bit at a time. I think that getting all the craziness out of my head into something visual is helping with avoiding that overwhelmed can’t think straight feeling. I’m also constantly reminding myself that writing is an editing process and that, in order to do that I need something to edit. I’ll be back to blogging more next week, once these are all handed in. Can’t wait for that. Sigh.

For now, here are some little bits of my new home.

I’m so excited to be done with the school work and to play with my new flat. I’ll see you next week, when hopefully I’ll be a little less stressed and a little more coherent :)

I just had to take a break form studying to say good luck. I wanted to let you know that you are not alone! My essay and a take home exam are due tomorrow and are nowhere near being finished.
I also tend to get overwhelmed by the whole process and I?ll start freaking out about it, sometimes ending up not doing it at all! My new tactic is: just start writing! It sounds so easy, but as you know it really isn’t, especially when you don’t exactly know which way you want to go yet. I find that while I write, things will develop and connections will be made. The paper itself will lead you the way it wants to go (sounds ridiculous, I know, but that?s the way it feels). Also, accepting the fact that it takes me a little bit longer than most to write the same paper helps.

Again, lots of luck with the essays. In times of extreme frustration repeat after me: don?t panic (hey it works in outer space, so it?ll probably work while writing too!) It will be fine.

I love seeing pictures of your home. Apartments in America aren’t nearly as beautiful.

What a great place! Such nice architectural detail!

A mind map always helped me - I’m a very visual person, so I’m always making diagrams and flowcharts for everything!

I know exactly what you mean about the essay writing. I’ve been majorly stressed out about a 3000 word assignment and I knew the stuff. My husband is an academic and I have finally decided I am going to take his advice re my study skills (or lack thereof). I just wonder if taking study advice from one’s spouse is akin to taking driving lessons…..

Oh wow you have such lovely features in your house; is that a Range?

Good luck with the coursework :)

(you know what sucks more than deadlines? No deadlines. My supervisor told me my thesis had to be in ’soon’. ‘Soon’?! Come on! I can’t push myself with ’soon’)

oh! your cute house is so not fair! i just KNOW when i get my new place (i start looking in about three weeks!) it will end up being some ghastly 80s double-brick villa, and it will take all my interior decorating skillz, plus the fabulous patchwork leather couches i inherited to make the place look… well… less ugly.
i want everyone to think lucky karma for me, so i find a cottage in my pricerange instead.

Yeah.. essays. You’re not alone. 3000 words on something I know nothing about by Wednesday in my case.
The new site look is cool.

It’s a bit late now but I often begin assignments by writing a series of headings, then filling in the bits in between with sub-headings and sub-sub-headings. Eventually I get to the point where I start to feel I can write some sentences in between (although often I write bla bla bla instead). Helps break the thing down into sections. Hope things are going well.

(I really enjoy reading your blog. Been reading it for a while without commenting.)

Oh Ysolda I don’t envy you at all! Every essay for my English degree felt like pulling my guts out, spreading them on a table and then asking people to stab them. Not pretty. But so satisfying when done! Hope all is going well and that you get to revel in your beautiful flat soon

Totally unrelated question but I do hope you feel satisfied with your essays. I had a question about the sizing of the cloud bolero. Is it sized to fit how it fits you or how it fits the model in the Yarn Forward picture ? It looks downright frumpy on the model but lovely on you so clearly you can tell how I would like it to fit me.
