snow white v.2

Last night, after much ripping and re-knitting (with which the yarn coped with very impressively) I finished the second version of Snow White. I haven’t taken it off long enough to block it yet, but my mum was round this morning so I roped her into taking pictures.

It?s definitely my new favourite jumper, although it?s so cold here that I?m wearing it over a cashmere poloneck. This looks surprisingly good, but I?m still cold!
I haven?t shared a picture of the back of the first version, but I made it like a raglan without the front section. This didn?t quite work out, but I knew I didn?t want to have the sleeves going straight across the back either. The solution is a combination of both ideas, a sort of combo raglan and ?saddle? shaping.

I love how perfectly this fits at both the front and back. The stitches are grafted together at the center back. I knew I wanted to do this, but had to overcome the problem of not being able to graft the 2×2 rib neatly. The back detail was a practical way of overcoming the problem. Luckily I love how it looks and it also improves the fit.

I’m working on the pattern for this at the moment, and will probably be looking for test knitters soon, let me know if you’re interested.

Here’s the cabled beret I knit a few weeks ago.

Today I also added these pretties to my etsy shop. I know many of you are knitters and could easily make your own (see my patterns page) but thought you might like to see how the pattern looks in different yarns / colours.

Snow White is indeed lovely. You did a marvelous job with the neckline and the shaping…so flattering on your figure too.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned your BEAUTIFUL (Hill Tribes?) silver necklace. Very nice touch.

Wish I had time to test knit Snow White…I would be available to test knit that lovely beret though…. Thanks for sharing your pictures!

Oh every thing you knit is so pretty! I while wating (for the new opera gloves) have knitted your stuffies and gave them out as gifts. I am still looking for my first jumper project and am still torn between Arisaig, Matilda Jane, and now Snow White. I think that I might be about the same size as you and I would be exited to test knit Snow White.

That jumper is fabulous, I’m sure you have enough people volunteering already but I would love to test knit it. I’ve been looking for ages for a sexy fitted sweater that isn’t too madly girly. I can kitchener a sock toe, I imagine it will be more of a challenge to do something that will be in plain view! Please can I put in an appeal for an xxs on your size range! :)

I love that necklace - it’s gorgeous. I also love that beautiful jumper which looks very cosy - and love the edging around the neck - though I agree it has been freezing. Our family went to Paris just after Christmas and I was walking around in a couple of cotton shirts, a cashmere jumper, a wool/aran cardigan, a velvety/cotton jacket and a gilet and still cold! Sometimes I am grateful to the continental drift we get in the southern half of England!

hi Ysolda

What talent you have! I’m 51 and have been knitting on and off since I was 6 (at primary school we all, boys included, had to knit a square for a blanket) but it also helped because my mum was (and still is) a knitter.

But….. I’ve always been a bit of a formulaic, boring, knitter (ie as long as I’ve got an exact pattern, then I’m safe). Only over the past couple of years I’ve broken out of this and done all sorts of ad lib knitting. But certainly not on the scale and intricacy which you’ve managed, you clever person….

Ysolda, you have real talent. You’ve inherited some special skills from your grandad and I think you have far to go (if the major handknitting companies don’t snap you up pronto, then they’re bonkers). I love your matilda jane (which I’ve downloaded today) and also your arisaig (featured on the knitty.com site - which is where I found your website!).

I want to knit both designs up asap for ME! Being a middle-aged knitter doesn’t mean that I want to wear either the shapeless granny designs or the multi-coloured old hippy type things which seem to be par for the course in the ‘regular’ design world……

Will also wait with bated breath for snow white (and of course, the design is so perfectly based on the Disney character….)

Yours in admiration

clarabelle
