It’s spring, I handed in the last piece of coursework of my degree last Thursday, and I have a few days left before I need to worry about studying for finals. Here are a few of the things I’ve been enjoying, so very, very much over the last few days:

That the range in my kitchen, although I don’t use it, still draws everything around it and becomes the centre of my home. I love wondering about the other people who were drawn around it in the past.

Discovering that these

do this

My new 1lb loaf tin, perfect for a one person loaf

Buying seeds and bulbs in the botanic gardens with my mum on friday and then carrying compost and my plants from her house to my flat. My arms almost fell off, but it’s ok - I can still knit.

That the plants that I bought last year not only survived 2 moves and the winter but are now sitting on my windowsill - with buds. I might have crafty, nimble fingers but they are most definitely not green so the fact that these lasted more than a week, let alone almost a year is pretty surprising.

On saturday meeting up with some city knitty peeps, going to the Miso Funky fair and then discovering great new craft shops - one dedicated to beads (lady lawson st) and one to embroidery threads (the grassmarket). Finding, on my way home, that the intriguing looking charity shop near my house has lots of crafty things, where I bought these notions. They had a whole bucket full of zips for 10p apiece, maybe i should go grab some more.

That I’ve had time to read this and this.

And that now I’m going to go and try to buy some soil for my seeds, browse some more charity shops and walk in the sunshine.

Have a good Monday chickadees,

x

That’s great! I usually don’t comment, because my comments are usually of this inane quality, but I just loved this post. Wonderful, swirly narcissi - I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Anyway, thanks for this, it certainly brightened up my Monday. Take care!

This is, as mentioned, a beautiful post. I’m charmed by the daffodils, but even more so by your range. I would want to use it every day. Is it functional?

Happy spring, happy complete coursework, happy everything.

Also…..sewing down final hem tonight - arsed the stitching working to late last night - and then she is finally done.
Washing, blocking, pictures, etc to come.

What a beautiful old range. Is it not at all functional anymore? I mean for cooking. Clearly it’s functional as a desk. :)

Yay on the coursework.

I really wanted to come along to Miso Funky but I had tickets to the Country Living Fair instead, which doesn’t come round as often as Miso Funky…

I think Edinburgh charity shops are pretty good for craft, there’s one somewhere in Tollcross/Bruntsfield that’s got some good bargains.

ha! you’re getting greenthumbed because youre going into spring, i’m going greenthumbed because i’m going into autumn.

yesterday was the first day it was chilly enough to wear a jumper, so i threw some wettasoil on our wee garden. it’s no use to try and plant things in summer here - they just burn and die. i’ve even managed to kill a small tree through lack of water since we moved in. i feel quite bad. it was a pretty little tree. and quite well established. it was taller than me.

this weekend i’m going to put manure on the bed that will grow our herbs, and under the clothesline where i’m going to plant lavender, so it scents the clothes (though i’m rethinking this a little - i don’t want too many bees when i go to bring the washing in).
