Pleasing my inner six year old

DSCF3977.JPG

My inner little princess is so very delighted today.

DSCF3980.JPG

This dainty piece of knitting is becoming a flared, cropped cardigan with short puffy sleeves. Something like this:

DSCF3996.JPG

Even to me this seemed a little ridiculously over girly, but I decided to just embrace it, sugary pink and all. Then I looked down and realised that perhaps this will quite naturally become a part of my wardrobe.

My poor mary janes are clearly falling apart, but that’s ok because I think I’ve finally found a replacement. A shiny red replacement. I can’t wait for them to arrive. Keep your fingers crossed that they actually fit, this whole ordering shoes online thing is a bit hit and miss but I could not find shoes I liked anywhere. The only casual shoes I can find that would look good with skirts seem to be ballet flats, which I simply can’t wear - silly narrow heels. I’m also a little unsure about the veggie substitute for leather thing, it wasn’t intentional at all (although I am mostly vegetarian) they just happened to be the shoes I liked the most. Anyone have any experience with this fabric, or the company?

Today I met up with a friend who had commisioned me to make her a fairy costume. We had so much fun fabric shopping, and now I have this pile to play with. Once I’ve made the dress the real fun will begin - shopping for twinkly embellishments.

Thank you to everyone who offered to test knit Snow White, I’ll be sending out the pattern and details tomorrow. I’ve still got one spot left to fill, so if anyone would like to test the pattern for a 48-50″ bust size please let me know.

Oh, I hope there will be a pattern for this cardi soon! It is so cute! I am not usually the girly girl type but this one is really cute! Cool Mary Jane’s too.

Very sweet girly cardigan! Pink is my my favorite color but the pzttern is so cute that i’m sure that with any another bright color it can be pretty too.
And i’m in love with the red mary jane!

Eee! I love all of your stuff and read your blog often. If you still need someone to test the 48-50″ bust I will do it for you!

That’s going to be a very pretty cardigan! About the pink socks, did you knit them yourself? If so, may I ask the pattern you used?

I love those shoes. I’m really tempted to order them but I have narrow feet and I daren’t buy shoes without trying them on, especially since often I see some shoes which look really comfy in a shop and then just feel awful.

Will have to take a holiday to Brighton then!

I buy all of my shoes from Vegetarian Shoes as I gave up leather when I went veggie. Shoe sizes can be very hit and miss which I agree is frustrating. They won’t be exactly like leather but the nice thing is that they’ll be soft from day one. None of this wearing in crap and blisters! They’re very cute……..I could be tempted too as it is really difficulat to find shoes to wear with skirts that aren’t 3 inches off the ground. I hope you like them and the knitting looks great!

I’ve bought from the veggie shoe shop several times, online and in person, and in general I love their shoes (some of the designs aren’t to my taste, but I’ve had my eye on those sandals for a while). Anyway, the shop is really nice, I had no problems with them, and the shoes themselves are great - if you didn’t know that it wasn’t leather you would never guess, the material they use behaves in the same way.

Looking forward to seeing the finished cardie!

That sweater, those socks, and the shoes you linked to are ADORABLE. Will you be writing up a pattern for the sweater?

My partner has worn boots from the Vegetarian Shoe shop for years and years and years. His boots last as long as my leather ones do (but don’t need dubbin-ing!), are waterproof, easy to walk in, etc. He’s only ever bought his shoes online from them, but he’s always had good customer services. Those red shoes are lovely!

(PS: I’ve finally posted pictures of my Lace-Up Opera Gloves to my blog - I love the pattern! It’s far too late for me to figure out the Flickr thing, so I just thought I’d mention it here :) )

That cardigan is just perfect! I also like the shoes you bought. I hate when shoes you’ve worn and loved have to be replaced and you can’t find anything that’s half as good. You seem to have found a nice replacement though!

Can’t wait to see a pattern for “White”. I’ll help test anything in a 42″ bust, if you need it.

I applaud your unabashed girliness. It looks pretty awesome to me.

a quick question–you use a lot of lighter-guage wools (it’s o good thing) and I was wondering if you had some favourites you could share that wear well and are not too costly (where I live Rowan 4-ply soft is $12 CDN per ball, and Jaeger MM 4-ply is about $10)

You’re building up a really nice set of patterns! Congratulations (?)

About the vego shoes: I don’t have any, but they seem to be composed of a lot of synthetic materials. Don’t know for sure how it works with leather, but there are more carbon emissions to make acrylic yarn than wool, and I’d guess it’d be similar for synthetic materials and leather? Maybe just something to think about in future, if avoiding animal products aren’t your first priority. They’re very nice shoes though.

I have those rocket dog shoes in brown. I wish I had bought the black ones too.
I’m scared of buying shoes online because 90% of them dont fit my stupid shaped feet. Still, at least its almost flip flop weather.

I’ve shopped from that shoe company and they stood up to anything and were so comfortable. No smelly feet either!

There is a Vegetarian Shoe shop in Brighton and although I have never bought them I have often tried them on, always been very satisfactory!
I love the knitting, nothing wrong with a bit of pink prettiness now and again!

if you still need a test knitter for the last size I would be happy to knit it for you. I live in California, US. Love your website and knitting. Just found it today.

I’ll name that lace pattern in 2: is it Tulip Lace from Vogue Knitting? I am knitting a baby blanket using that stitch pattern at the moment and it looks just like your picture….except blue not pink.

Lurve those shoes. I have some red camper mary janes that are similar but they are at least 8 years old now……

I bought a pair of DM 16-eye boots from Veggie Shoes in 2003. Although the material is different from your shoes, they’re long-wearing (I still wear them to this day, and I plan on wearing them for many, many more years to come). I was eyeballing the Ally sandal for a while, but since I live in the US, it comes to being very expensive. I would definitely buy another pair of para boots from them, once these die, though.

I love your black Mary Janes - where did you get them? And although I am not pink’s #1 fan, I think it works so well with the eyelets and is adorable!

BTW, waiting impatiently for the Snow White pattern. Those of us who are very short-waisted (raises hand) are looking forward to it!
