Daylight?
Please come back, my photos miss you oh so much! Sigh, I need to do some proper photo shoots but I’m not sure when that’s going to happen, so I thought you might like a little update on some of the things that will feature in said photo shoots when everything comes together for them.

The second Arabella is almost done, I just need to do the second of the cute little cap sleeves. The sleeves are picked up, knit from the shoulder down and shaped with short rows, a la Barbara Walker. This technique does create a rather shallow sleeve cap for normal sleeves, but that is perfect for little cap sleeves like this.
It’s a little fussy, but I love the way the cables merge together at the centre front of the neckline.

The first, totally sleeveless, version of Arabella was designed to wear over blouses with puffed sleeves (er I mean that’s how I planned to wear it, I wouldn’t be quite so prescriptive about how you wear my designs!). The plan for this sort of sleeved version is that it will also work well worn over other tops. I am looking forward to finishing this, since the first one has become one of my current wardrobe staples.
Another wardrobe staple is the new Apocalypse Hoodie, in fact I’m wearing it right now. I finished this perfectly as the temperature dropped and it’s a great snuggly in the house jumper that’s stylish enough to leave the house in.
The chunky zip goes perfectly with the yarn, and is neatly finished with bias binding that I painstakingly handstitched to the inside.

I wasn’t sure about the brightness of the binding to start with, I choose it mainly because I happened to have it to hand, but it has grown on me.
Notice anything about the colours I’ve been using recently? While I was never organised enough to keep up with project spectrum I have become increasingly aware that I do naturally go through periods where I gravitate towards certain colours. This is definitely one of the things that blogging has made me more aware of. It’s not just that I’ve noticed myself using certain colours and combinations but that I seem to notice those colours more in everything around me. It might be interesting to try and document that in other ways. Is this something that you’ve noticed about your own work?

the bright bias tape makes me look forward to receiving the grey part of my “apocalypse wool” order that I purchased as the knitting and stitching show on Thursday. I have bright turquoise sat here as the contrast colour!!
As for colour and projects. As I have only been knitting a year, crocheting for two, I am finding that I am learning fast on colour choices. Variegated imo looks gorgeous on the ball/hank but doesn’t work well for much other than socks. Grey I have a love hate relationship with. It’s my easy-go-with-anything comforter, but I miss colour when wearing it. I could go on and on about colour, but won’t jam your comments page!

I too have noticed a shift in my color choices recently. I started knitting 17 months ago and my first choices were neutrals (heavy on the natural cream colors) then I shifted to brights. Now I am back to muted colors with more depth than single-colored yarns without being truly variegated. Deep browns, dark purples, pastel earth tones.
I am more open to the whole range of colors than I used to be and love to find unexpected combinations in nature that I can replicate.

I go through colour periods too (like Picasso :P). Last summer it was everything pink, and now it is grey that i’m drawn to most. A bit of a sad, rainy colour, but I find I’m more interested in shape than in colour at the moment and grey doesn’t draw any attention away from the shape of a garment.

I must make the hoodie! It’ll be perfect for my unnaturally-always-cold tree-hugging self! It looks wonderful in those colours. :)

I too, am sincerely missing the lack of sunshine here in the northern hemisphere. I wake up - it’s dark. I come home from work - it’s dark. How’s a girl supposed to take blog photos?
That hoodie is great. Love the bright binding!

I agree about colours; I myself have periods when i urge for e g blues/greens which is the case right now. I believe that since all colours have a different energy, we change our focus as our needs change - just like the seasons!
And how boring to always wear the same!
Looved your hoodie!

Greens. Most of my knits tend to be green (I didn’t notice until my sister pointed it out). I have started Snow white in Cascade 220 (Heather range) - in green of course!

Are you reworking the hoodie pattern? (I can’t seem to find it at the moment.) I like the chunky-but-fitted-ness, the tree, the big zipper.
I’ve found myself changing my color palette much more than I thought I would. I started out purchasing very muted colors, browns, blacks, maybe one or two brighter colors, for my yarn stash. I’ve moved (perhaps through sock knitting, where one can “get away with” bright and sometimes clashing colors tucked safely under a pant leg) to some bright colors, contrast, and not just blues and browns, but greens, pinks, purples, oranges… now I think about color much more, as a sort of addition to or layer of texture.

What yarn did you use for the hoodie? It looks great. My very first sweater was an apocalypse hoodie, but it was in horrible acrylic and it also ended up way too bit. I’d love to make a new one with better materials.

Will the hoodie pattern be available again some time? I really love it!
