Dreaming of Snow White?

If you’ve been thinking about making Snow White but like the idea of knitting along with others you might be interested in knowing that the pattern has been nominated as a possible next pattern for the Sexy Knitters Club. Anyone can join them and there have been some great, very active knitalongs in the past. So if you’d like some company and little motivation to start you can vote for the pattern here.
I know that some people are concerned about bra straps being visible with the neckline and I’m going to see what I can come up with in the way of ideas for dealing with that, let me know if you have any.

Thank you to everyone who commented on yesterday’s post. It confirmed my suspicion that different people think differently and have different preferences - can’t please everyone - but I found your comments fascinating to read. I’ve really been trying to focus on how to make patterns as clear as possible, especially to beginners without much pattern reading experience, so your comments are really helpful in seeing my directions from the user perspective.

While I’m rambling about my patterns you might also like to know that I’ve added pdf versions of a couple of my free patterns. You can now find links to download the pdfs for Urchin and the Garter Stitch Mitts on my free patterns page, while Ravelry users can download the pdfs and add them to their own library from the Ravelry pattern pages - how cool is that?

I got a summer top that has a rather wide neckline as well.. the bra-strap problem is fixed by tiny straps one can close around the bra-straps with a snap-lock-thingy (can’t remember what it’s called). maybe that’s possible to sew into the places where the neckline is widest, or at the shoulders?
love the design!

My favourite summer tank top has a bra strap holder under each shoulder strap. It’s just a little strip of ribbon, sewn to the tank on one side, with a little plastic snap at the other end (one side of the snap sewn to the tank, the other sewn to the ribbon). It’s brilliant. Perhaps you could do something similar at the sides of the neckline…you’d have to experiment to find the best placement.

how about knitting or crocheting a lace insertion? It could be as deep or as shallow as desired, depending on your pattern repeat. That would also provide subtle cover for any unwanted cleavage (if you see what I mean), but then I guess it depends on the intention!

I hesitate to start Snow White because of the choise of the yarn. I’m afraid that wool or any synthetics blends will itch my skin and like Snow White can’t be worn on a shirt, i wandering is cotton, bamboo or linen could be a good choice?
It’s the blends that my skin will support the most i think.
Thank per advance!

And, ho your design are so feminine and sexy! Love all your work!

About the bra-straps: I’ve begun knitting, but am only about 4 inches into the body, so this is highly theoretical, but could you carry a couple of the bodice/neckline stitches up into the sleeve/shrug portion? This would narrow the neckline a little at its widest. The extra stitches could be decreased little by little up the sleeve part of the neckline.

It would change the drama of the neckline slightly, but might work to keep the edge of the bra showing at the corners. I’d be hard pressed to wear this without a bra.

I finished Snow White several months ago and I love it! I wore it to my family’s Christmas get-together, and they were amazed that I had made it myself, it was so beautiful and unique. I just wear mine with a bra with wider-set straps (a balconette bra, I believe it’s called), and I pin them out of the way pretty easily. The idea for small tabs at the edge, even buttons and small crocheted tabs with button loops somewhere close to the corners of the neckline, would be a nice addition.

Keep up the great pattern work. I’m looking forward to patterns for the reading hoodie and the little black cardigan.
