Trop des rubans et boutons!
I got to Toronto yesterday, more on that later, but before I left Montreal I had one place I had to return to for a longer visit.
My favourite thing about this store, other than the crazy buttony decor, is the giant drawer full of buttons that you can fill a bag from. I spent a good hour and a half digging through there and basically bought myself a button collection. So much fun + there’s a button encrusted cobra guarding the treasure.
I haven’t even had a chance to tip the bag out yet and sort through them, but I’m excited to really see what I got. And I selected a variety of red buttons from the shelves because apparently I have a thing for red buttons, the teeny bag of neatly choosen buttons was more expensive though than the giant one of random goodness.
Anyone in Edinburgh feel like opening a button store?

Awesome! Neat boutique!
That was fun, trying to read French again after 4 years of not speaking it after high school. I could still read it, but my verbs were definitely iffy.
I really want to visit Quebec now!

man, that looks like fun. That is what I like best about cities: the sheer concentration of unexpected magic.

Heck, yeah! There’s a button store that I used to go to in York, but that’s a bit of a trek of Edinburgh….

Hurray, someone else who understands the simple pleasures of cute buttons! If I’m ever up in Canada I must visit that store!

FUN! If you ever go to Boston, you should find Windsor Button. It’s similar to that shop, with a giant drawer of random buttons and a whole wall of buttons for being carefully-chosen. It’s quite quaint though…very 1930s. You’d like it :)

If you’re ever in San Francisco, you HAVE to stop by Britex, right off Union Square. In addition to a gorgeous fabric selection, they have thousands of buttons and other notions. They even have a fairly extensive collection of vintage buttons!

Hey Ysolda,
You probably don’t remember me but we were in the same department at Uni. I saw you knitting in lectures but I had no idea that you are such a talented knitter!
If you are still in Toronto (my home town), there’s an antique market on Sundays at St. Lawrence Market. From about 9 am (?) to about 3 pm (?). There are stalls full of vintage buttons and lace - you might enjoy it!
Also head to the Reservoir Lounge on Church and Wellington at night to hear some great live jazz! My friend Jake plays on Friday nights and I highly recommend it.
Hope you have a good time there!

I’m definitely going to go there the next time I’m in Montreal. And it’s in St. Denis - awesome area to shop on!

I second the Windsor Button recommendation if you are ever in Boston (they also have knitting stuff and hard-to-find sewing notions). Once I was in there and this sort of strung-out-looking guy was just running his hands through the big open button bin and he looked over at me and said, “They got a lot of buttons in here!” and I said, “That’s probably why they call it the button shop,” and he said, “Whoa.”

How JUICY! I love the idea of sorting through the treasure trove to find the ones you are akin to and being able to fill an ENTIRE bag!!

I love the idea of a button store. Okay. that settles it. I’m going to Canada and I’m going to visit Lettuce Knit and this button place.
