Back to my nest

Coming home these days seems to be all about the food. Something about autumn makes me feel like stockpiling, just in case I need to hibernate, so this morning I bought a few kilos of tomatoes at the market. A cauldron of sauce, destined to be frozen in single serving bags, has been quietly bubbling [...]

Budapest is the new Paris!

Except that I kind of want to keep that secret, it’s not overly full of tourists and I’m afraid of spoiling it!

It might also be a very subjective opinion, no one else in our (homely, friendly - recommended) hostel seemed remotely as taken with the place as we were.

The market hall, we managed to [...]

Sighisoara, Transylvania

The view of the clock tower at the top of the hill from the ‘lower town’
We’re in a little, very ancient town in Translavania called Sighisoara. We’re staying right in the centre of the old town, which is on a hill top and all we’ve really done so far is wander around taking a million [...]

Rila Monastery

On our last day in Bulgaria we got up early, walked for about half an hour and took a very slow tram to a bus station outside the centre where we caught a bus to RIla Monastery. It was quite a trip to get there, but totally worth it. The monastery itself was beautiful and [...]

Sofia

So I flew to Greece, but I didn’t actually stay there for very long (by the way I’ve never had an issue flying out of the Uk with metal circulars or any problems knitting on the plane, that’s no guarantee that you’ll have the same experience but it seems like it’s not usually a problem). [...]

London again!

Well sort of, I’m at gatwick airport waiting to board my flight to Greece. Since I’m already two thirds of the way through the book I bought in Edinburgh I had to buy some more - I hate the idea of travelling with no book! I’ve got some knitting too, the perfect travel project [...]

Home!

I’m leaving again at 4.30am on Monday morning (for a trip I’m really excited about) but right now I’m ignoring that and enjoying being at home. This morning we went to the farmer’s market and spent all afternoon and evening pottering around the kitchen cooking dinner for me, Laura and my friend Joanna.

We Laura made [...]

Au revoir Paris!

We’re just waiting to go to the airport (the fire in the eurotunnel kind of messed up our plans to take the train, but at least we found a cheapish direct flight that will actually get us home earlier) but I thought I’d post some photos I took this morning on a short walk around [...]

Elijah’s I-Knit

Since the Elijah that went missing from the store has never turned up (and is, I keep telling myself, having wonderful adventures without me) I’m making another. And so, Elijah in progress went to I-knit, where he had a lot of fun.

We met Emma, who had forgotten her mustache but was keen to [...]

London Adventures - part 2

Part 1

Today we took several trains

and eventually found ourselves on a very busy oxford street in the rain.

We looked up directions online, realised that liberty’s is actually on regent street and, after dodging everyone else’s umbrellas while trying to stop our own getting entangled, we splashed our way there.

Although the fabric selection does seem to [...]
