By S Twist Wool
Ireland is well known for its green hills and valleys covered in sheep, but very little of the fibre is turned into hand knitting yarn. Diarmuid of S Twist Wool is on a mission to change that, working directly with sheep farmers around the country to create a range of minimally processed yarns that make the most of the unique characteristics of the fibre. The wool is washed using a natural fermentation method. This ensures that no harmful chemicals are used. All the washing is done by hand and the wool is dried in the open air. The yarn is then handspun using an electric spinning wheel the owner of S Twist Wool, Diarmuid, developed himself.

All of the colours are the natural colours of the sheep and the range includes breed specific yarns and mixes. The mountain mix is, as you’d expect from hardy mountain sheep, the hardest wearing with a lively, springy hand. The mixed coloured fleece on the other hand is softer, with a lovely lustre. We also have Jacob fleece: this is a wonderful chance to try this breed in as close to its natural state as possible.
Please note that every skein is produced by hand from naturally coloured fleece and is therefore unique. We will do our best to match orders for multiple skeins but there may be some variation in weight and colour. Find S Twist DK yarn here.
