Beret with lattice cable pattern worked in worsted weight yarn. Pattern is given for three different styles to create a traditional fitted beret shape, a slouchy snood like shape, or a regular style somewhere in between the other two and similar to a traditional tam (not pictured).

Materials

155, 195, 230 yards / 140, 180, 210 metres of worsted / heavy worsted / aran weight yarn.

Pink, fitted beret is Noro Cash Iroha in shade 109 and grey, slouchy beret is Lana Grossa Soffice in shade 10.

3.75mm set of 4 or 5 double pointed needles or needles required for your preferred method of working small circumferences in the round.

4.5mm (or size needed to obtain correct gauge) 16″ / 40cm or 24″ / 60cm circular needle.

Stitch marker, a split ring marker is ideal as it can be easily re-positioned when the position of the beginning of the rnd is changed in order to maintain the pattern.

Gauge

16 sts and 24 rows in stocking st = 4″ / 10cm

16sts and 28 rows in 2×2 rib = 4″ / 10cm (make sure that both stitch and row gauge are achieved with the rib stretched in the same way).

For the most accurate results swatch in the round.

Styles

The ribbed band of the beret is very stretchy and should fit most women.

The pattern is given for 3 styles: fitted, regular and slouchy. The style created depends upon the number of unshaped rows worked between the band and the crown shaping so there is no need to decide on the style before beginning.
