Lauriel features a yoke that flatteringly combines round yoke and set in sleeve shaping in an intriguing seamless construction with underbust gathers and a fitted waist that's easy to fit perfectly. Twisted ribbing at the neck grows organically to form the outlines of leaves with eyelet flowers at their centres. These leaves are echoed as a motif on the cuffs and body, flowing down into the deep ribbed waistband.
Lauriel is worked from the top down, beginning with the leaf pattern yoke which is shaped exactly like a larger round yoke with increases hidden in the stitch pattern. At the shoulders the sleeves are shaped like set in sleeves and short rows are used to shape the front neckline. At the chest the front is wider than the back and the additional stitches are decreased at the underbust. At this stage the cardigan can easily be tried on to determine the best point at which to decrease.
