The cable and petal pattern on the cuffs grows into an elegant motif on the back of the hand that invisibly incorporates the necessary shaping for the thumb. Picking up stitches for the flip-tops has the potential to look messy but detailed instructions are provided for a method that looks virtually seamless.
The mittens are very stretchy, particularly at the cuffs and should easily fit hands measuring 7-8½" / 18-22cm around knuckles. The length can be simply adjusted to fit and where to do this is indicated in the pattern.
