A cosy hat with a classic cable pattern
The Letterpress hat is cosy and eye catching, perfect for that single skein of DK you’ve been saving. With simple, easy to follow cable stitches, this pattern is great for knitters who are new to cabling. Enjoy cabling without a cable needle, or eager to learn how? Only a handful of the crosses involve more than 4 stitches.
Letterpress printing is a form of relief printing, where an image, pattern or text is on a raised surface that paper is then pressed onto to transfer the design. This type of printing has a “debossing” effect, where the shapes of the plate leave a slight imprint on the paper, along with the ink. This seemed like a perfect name for a hat that features a range of cabling and other relief textures.
The Letterpress Hat is currently exclusive to the Knitworthy 8 collection and will be released as an individual pattern in mid-December.
Our newest collection of accessory patterns, perfect to gift. Knitworthy 8 includes six patterns spanning a wide range of techniques and styles.
The Letterpress Hat is worked from the bottom up, beginning with a folded 1x1 ribbed brim before moving on to the cable section. The hat is fully charted for each size - no keeping track of multiple charts with different repeats required. The crown decreases are incorporated into the cable patterns, maintaining a balanced texture throughout. We knit Letterpress as a classic fitted beanie, if you love a bit of extra pouf at the top of your hats simply work an extra repeat before beginning the crown shaping.
The Letterpress Hat comes in three adult sizes and is made with DK or light worsted weight yarn.
