Inspired by a modern knitwear design classic, the crescent shawl with a dramatic lace border and stockinette centre shaped with short rows, Malton Oolite replaces lace with dramatic texture and architectural lines.
Two colour brioche rib brings out all of the depth and subtlety of a colour combination where the accent was layered over the main. In this case it also blends two vibrant colours with jarring potential in a way where their discordant elements create life and movement. It begins with a two colour cast on that blends perfectly into the two colour brioche rib that’s shaped simply with increases and decreases to create bias points and a gentle curve to the whole. The darker colour dominates the right side of the edging but reversible decreases are worked so that, when it inevitably flips over while wearing, the wrong side looks just as good. Leaving a few stitches at each end to become the upper edging the centre is then worked in only the lighter colour and shaped with short rows to give the shawl its easy to wear shallow crescent shape. Using the darker colour applied I-cord is then worked across the live stitches at the top for a clean finish.
