Tutorials and tips for each pattern
The Colourwork Club includes three beautiful accessory patterns, from Ysolda and our guest designer, that were thoughtfully developed to slowly grow your colourwork skills. The Ruthven hat, designed by our guest designer Weichien Chan, is exclusive to the club and a great example of her beautiful colourwork.
Each pattern includes multiple sizes, clear instructions, tips, suggested colour palettes and charts for creating your own colour palettes.

Play with colours and practice your stranded tension on this sampler cowl. The overall effect is complex, but stitch patterns are only 4 stitches wide throughout, so it's perfect for new colourwork knitters. Mulben requires 3 or more colours, the pattern includes suggestions for palettes between 3 and 8 colours, and it would be perfect for a scrappy stashbusting project.

The Ruthven hat makes a great second project to gently stretch your stranded colourwork skills. Learn a new technique with the optional corrugated rib band, finish your hat with a pom-pom, tassel or let the beautiful gathered crown shine unadorned. Ruthven is equally effective in two colours, a contrast colour gradient, or worked in many colours.

With the confidence you'll gain working the first two projects you'll be ready to stretch yourself with the Davoch mitts featuring a traditional star motif. The skills you’ll develop will open up a whole world of mitt and mitten knitting. Create completely different looks by changing the colour palette, and enjoy working the larger, more intricate motifs.
Previous participants have included everyone from people who had never even tried to knit with two colours before their first club project, to designers who have had their colourwork patterns published. Some people joined because they wanted to develop their skills, while others love knitting in a community and sharing their experience. You're welcome to participate in the online club as much, or as little, as feels right to you. Whatever your skill level, your contributions are welcome, and if you have a question there's almost certainly someone else wondering the same thing who is too shy to ask.
If you’ve never done stranded colourwork before this is the perfect way to learn, the projects will progressively challenge your skills, and the club group includes lots of helpful tips and tutorials.
If you are a newer knitter we recommend mastering the following skills before tackling stranded colourwork: knitting and purling, knitting in the round, maintaining an even tension, basic increases and decreases, and reading your knitting.
The digital club membership began as our 2021 Colourwork Club, and turned into such a fantastic community and resource hub that we've decided to keep it going. When you sign up you'll get instant access to your patterns, which will include an invite to Colourwork Club group. If you're not already a member of the Ysolda Knitwork you'll be asked to create a login.
Cast on at any time, knit at your own pace, and join in on any existing discussions or post your own. There are no deadlines and your one off payment gives you continual* access to the club group on The Ysolda Knitwork, and, of course, the patterns are yours to keep.
