You’ll work Coracle flat, beginning at one upper corner and working diagonally to the opposite edge of the bottom triangle. The edges are shaped with simple increases and decreases. Before binding off you’ll work a ribbed border, which grows beautifully from the eyelet basketweave pattern and gives the bottom point a stylish asymmetric finish. After blocking you’ll complete the cowl with a short mattress stitch seam at the centre back.
A coracle is a small lightweight boat, which has been in use around the world since as far back as the early Bronze Age, and possibly the Ice Age. The size and shape varies but the traditional construction of a coracle is a round basketwork frame, held together with rope, and finished with a waterproof covering. With their woven construction, and heritage as the most likely first vessel used on water, Coracle feels like the perfect name for the first pattern in our collection of gifts to keep you and your loved ones cosy on adventures big or small.
