Learn more about the collectionThe Linocut Hat makes an eye catching gift for the plant lover in your life. You’ll enjoy stretching your stranded colourwork skills with the unusual, non-symmetrical pattern, and using colour to create your unique take on the design. Plus learn the smart ladderback jacquard technique: it’s the perfect way to manage long floats and makes possible the large areas of negative space that give the bold floral design its impact.
The Linocut Hat was inspired by a block printing technique where a design is carved into linoleum to create a raised surface that can be inked and printed. The simple, organic shapes of the design are evocative of the hand carved textures and unique imperfections that linocut produces. Choose two colours for a bold look that highlights the graphic quality of the design, or play with colour by combining a solid with a self-striping, speckled or variegated yarn to produce a unique look perfect for any recipient.
The Linocut Hat is currently exclusive to the Knitworthy 8 collection and will be released as an individual pattern in mid-December.

Worked from the bottom up, the Linocut Hat begins with a ribbed band before moving onto the stranded colourwork. Ladderback jaquard, a simple technique borrowed from machine knitting, to invisibly secure the long floats whilst maintaining the elasticity required for a good fit. The strands of non-working yarn are connected with vertical columns of stitches, or “ladders”, creating a loose layer of fabric that floats behind the outer layer without showing through to the right side. Don’t worry if you’ve never tried this technique – it’s surprisingly simple to work and our detailed tutorial will guide you through each step.
The Linocut Hat comes in three adult sizes and is made with DK or light worsted weight yarn. The colourwork pattern is worked from a chart.
