Cria is a very simple design, but the construction and details keep things interesting. Worked from the top down it begins with a small garter stitch rectangle for each shoulder, from which stitches are picked up and the sleeve caps, fronts and back are worked downwards in one piece. Short rows are used to angle the shoulders, with all of the shaping worked at the back, a detail that echoes the construction of traditional button down shirts. The front and back yokes are worked in garter stitch, with the sleeve caps in the stockinette stitch used for the main part of the cardigan, adding definition to the tailored style.
The garter stitch edgings are worked simultaneously with the body and slipped stitches between garter and stockinette stitch are used to prevent the edges folding under. As shown buttons can be positioned only on the garter stitch section of the yoke or all the way down as preferred.
No shaping is worked to decrease at the waist, but the drapey yarns shown will naturally follow your curves, and the gentle a-line flatteringly increases to the hips. If substituting a yarn that creates a less clingy fabric you may wish to add more definition at the waist. If you prefer to wear the cardigan buttoned at the bottom make sure to take your hip measurement into account and add more increases as necessary to maintain the a-line shaping. Alterations to the body length should be made evenly in between the increase rows.
