Cairn on the top of the Coyles of Muick by Hello, I am Bruce
Thank you for all of the wonderfully creative naming suggestions! The one that stuck slipped in quietly, but it gradually seemed more and more perfect. And although the mitts aren’t exactly the shape of a cairn, they’d be great to keep your hands warm while carefully placing stones, and many cairns either start off as rings of stones or disperse until that’s all that remains.
The only photo that I’ve taken of a cairn that I could find was this, taken from inside a rather ramshackle one.
Those who have ordered the Whimsical collection should have already received it, but if you’re interested in purchasing this one individually you can find it here.
p.s. Ishbel already resulted in me adding a new category of pattern to my shop, and since I didn’t have any other mitt patterns and I can only put a pattern in one category I listed this under hats – which is really rather imperfect. So, since you’re the ones using my navigation, how do you think I should categorise my growing pattern collection. Replace hats with accessories, even though they’ll be mostly hats? Get rid of the current system and create more categories, so that patterns can be listed under all of the appropriate ones? Do you care at all, or do you find yourself clicking through to individual pattern pages from blog posts, ravelry etc?

the name is pretty cool,
good luck for the new patterns organisation
The hat certainly does look like the Cairn in the photograph!
I’ve received my link and am looking forward to knitting mine.
Excellent choice – not mine – but excellent!
I think a category for accessories is simplest. Call it “accessories, mainly hats” if you like.
I think I would go with “accessories”.
Your coat is lovely! (As is your hat, obviously.)
The name is really fitting!
I love the choice, Carin. So beautiful.
As for your organizing your patterns, I’m thinking of another blog I read, a designer, and she groups her designs separately. It’s always so easy to find just what I want. I think as your list grows, you will find it helpful to have separate categories. You might have one hat under hats, but after awhile you might have fifteen. It would get confusing looking for them under scarves, mitts, and so forth. That’s just my opinion.
Call it “Hats and Accessories” and then when you have more of a variety, then just call it “Accessories”
nice photos! nice name:) i generally search under designer names when i am on revelry or some such. on the designers’ blog/site, i search under categories–such as accessories.
Nice choice!
Accessories will be great i think , it’s clear that your collection of pattern grows!!
You could do “hats, plus” or “hat’s, etc.”
I think Cairn is really a great name. As for your question on categories I would suggest, like linda, to name it hats anand other accesories!
I think individual listings for categories – as I’m sure your collection will grow a lot more and I agree with debbie re people wanting to find the exact thing straight away. Love the name choice :-)
it may be a pain, but i think that more categories would be appropriate. especially, if you are planning to keep designing knitwear. we can all only hope that you never quit.
To seperate the different patterns would make it more clear in my opinion. When you want to make it more general speaking, why not choose something like: Head, Hands, and Neck? So you could out under Hands not only mittens but rings, bracelets too. You never know where creativity brings us up to. What do you think?
Lovely !
Your entire outfit is gorgeous. That hat really is the icing on the cake!
Cairn is the perfect name!
As for seeing your patterns, I look at your patterns from your blog pages, as opposed to Ravelry. I have your blog on my RSS feed.
A category that works well for me is titled “Scarves, Hats & Mittens”. That way when there are sets, they can all go in that category.
I’m waffling between Katrin’s suggestion of Head, Hands, and Neck – it’s different from the norm, but I think, all in all, individual categories would be best as I can’t see your pattern design growing both in number and variety. Good luck.
I like the name “Cairn.” I think you should fix it so that you can list patterns under more than one category. Then people can see the set under the hats or the mitts category. I also think it would be nice to have an “ALL” category.
